Newborn Photography Safety - No Question! | Orange NSW Newborn Photographer

When your newborn baby arrives in this world, they immediately become one of the most important beings in a parents eye. So why would you risk their safety by choosing a newborn photographer without asking some important questions so that you know you are booking the most qualified newborn photographer for your budget? Now I am not saying that the cheapest photographer is not the one taking newborn safety the most seriously, or that the most expensive photographer is the most qualified or safety responsible. But you won't know this without doing your research! The photographer you choose will have their hands on your baby for 2-4 hours; you want to know that you have picked someone who has done everything they can to understand a newborn's body and the safety measures that should be followed throughout the session to keep them comfortable and safe.I did a poll on Instagram, asking if this was important to people, and was happy to see that for the vast majority, yes it is! newborn safety, vaccinateI am a mum of two, and I feel confident in handling babies, but I wanted to ensure that I could also could back this up when talking to my clients, so I completed the Certificate in Newborn Photography with the Academy of Newborn Photography, and am now one of their certified photographers.I feel so incredibly honoured when I am chosen to photograph a new baby, it is such a privilege. Not only do I get all of the baby snuggles and the opportunity to capture precious memories for you to look back on for a lifetime, but you are also trusting me to take care of your most precious being (do you think I used enough adjectives in there!?).Here are some things I follow strictly and that you should check/keep in mind when choosing a photographer before booking your newborn session - this is not about booking me, it's about keeping your little one safe!

  • Hygiene - let's be honest, babies poo and wee a lot - and their photography session is no different! Put that with the fact they are often naked, it's inevitable that accidents happen on my wraps and blankets, as well as myself! If you're at my studio you will always see me sanitizing my hands before handling your baby, as well as throughout the session. Everything that your baby touches is also washed as soon as you leave the session, ensuring if I want to use it again for the next one, it is clean and fresh
  • I keep my camera strap around my neck at all times; we don't want any bumps on tiny heads
  • The baby is my boss. I will always make their comfort and safety my priority, and will not force them in to a pose or position they aren't comfortable in. They're smart, they show us when something isn't right, it's how us mum's can work out how to make them happy!
  • I don't leave babies unattended where they could roll or fall, or in the arms of impatient young siblings. I'll always ask a parent to stand close-by to assist
  • Babies aren't props, they are people! No image is worth risking baby safety. I will composite multiple images together in Photoshop where needed, rather than putting them in danger. Especially when we have toddlers who aren't a fan of their newest family member yet :)
  • All of my vaccinations are up to date, specifically whooping cough, as are those of all members of my family
And in this weird, pandemic world, all of the above is applied, as well as the option for you to request I wear a mask through the session, and these additional COVID safe requests for all of my clients. COVID-19 cleaningYou can always check my Safety page for more information and reassurance.
