Should I Have Engagement Photos?

When you book me as your wedding photographer, you have the option to also add on a discounted engagement session, and I often hear people ask if this is really necessary, given that they’ll not long be getting so many photos together for their wedding.

My answer to you is that if you can, especially if you’re planning your wedding well in advance, you totally should! Why you ask? Well!

1) Although I always try and meet my couples before their wedding, having a quick photoshoot together before the big day is like a dress rehearsal. It lets us build a relationship, have some fun and get to know each other

2) The above can only mean that because you know me better, you will both feel WAY more relaxed on the day

3) For grooms especially, if I had a dollar for every time someone said “my partner/husband/boyfriend hates having photos taken and is awkward”, I’d be able to retire! Doing an engagement session can help to show them that photos really aren’t that bad, and that we will laugh and have fun and tell stories, and it won’t actually feel like you’re having photos taken

4) Then you will get the photos back, and think HOW did she get these photos when we were just having fun and chatting away?!

5) Your wedding day will be busy, often surrounded by lots of people, lots of moments, and it will fly by. Engagement sessions are all about the two of you. Just you. Celebrating and recognising your love, before it is official on paper.

When Maddy booked their engagement session, she told me Reece was nervous, and she was looking forward to relaxing him infant of the camera. After it she told me that he had fun, and once they got their photos back she said he was so shocked and was even more excited for the wedding day now that he knew how it would be. And that is honestly THE BEST feedback I could have ever got!

Here’s some photos of it, and I cannot wait until their wedding in the coming months.
